Terms of Use
1. Agreement to these terms
By creating an account or otherwise using Knock, you agree to these Terms of Use and to the Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use Knock.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least [MINIMUM AGE — CONFIRM] years old to use Knock, and able to form a binding agreement under the law where you live.
3. Your account
You're responsible for your account and for keeping your password secure. Tell us at [SUPPORT EMAIL] if you believe your account has been compromised.
4. Acceptable use
Knock is built for talking with people you know. Don't use Knock to:
- harass, threaten, or abuse another person;
- impersonate someone else, or misrepresent your affiliation with a person or organization;
- send unlawful content, or content that infringes someone else's rights;
- send spam, or use Knock for unsolicited bulk messaging;
- attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer beyond what applicable law permits, or gain unauthorized access to Knock's systems or other users' accounts.
5. Content you send
You keep ownership of the messages, photos, videos, voice messages and files you send. Because they are end-to-end encrypted, Knock cannot review, filter or moderate the content of your conversations — participants in a conversation are responsible for what they exchange in it. If we receive a credible abuse report or a valid legal request, our available response is limited to what our systems can act on without reading message content (for example, suspending or terminating an account); see the Security page for what we can and cannot see.
6. License to operate the service
You grant Knock the limited technical rights needed to transmit and store what you send — as encrypted ciphertext we cannot read — so the service functions. Nothing in these terms gives Knock any right to read, use, license, or sell your message content, which we are technically unable to access.
7. Encrypted communications
Messages, media, reactions, replies, edits and deletions are end-to-end encrypted. Knock does not moderate their content, and Knock does not hold your encryption keys — if every device holding your keys is lost, we cannot recover that conversation history for you.
8. Service availability; alpha status
Knock is currently offered as a private alpha, distributed through Apple TestFlight to invited testers. Features, availability and even encryption details may change without notice during this phase, and the service is provided on an "as available" basis.
9. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms or applicable law. You can delete your account as described in the Support page and the Privacy Policy.
10. Intellectual property
The Knock name, logo and app are owned by [LEGAL ENTITY / OPERATOR NAME] or its licensors. These terms don't grant you any rights to them beyond using the app as intended. Knock's app includes open-source software components under their own licenses (including libsignal, AGPL-3.0-only); see the Security page for details. 11. Disclaimers
Knock is provided "as is" and "as available." We don't guarantee the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any security feature — including encryption — will be free of vulnerabilities.
12. Limitation of liability
